On Tech Talk Live last Monday Williams reiterated the same thoughts, "whatever is the best decision for me and my family at the time I'll make that decision, but as of right now I'm a Hokie."
Bill Roth preceded that question by asking him what feedback he thought he'd receive from the NFL Advisory Committee. Williams responded, "I think I would hear, you know, potential first round to second rounder, I wanna hear the same thing."
I believe Williams' ceiling is a first round, maybe even top 10 pick. However, I don't believe he's had the season necessary to convince NFL general managers of that claim. Being injured for the majority of 2010, in fact he's practicing again this week in a blue no-contact jersey, and only having one truly dominant game against Miami (14 rushes 142 yards 2 TDs) has hurt his stock. In the last two years, only 6 running backs were selected in the first round of the NFL draft. I would expect him to be selected somewhere between the 2nd and 3rd rounds, and I'm leaning toward the latter.
What the NFL, I, or you think doesn't matter though. By listening to him talk and reading his quotes it sure sounds like Williams believes he's ready for the next level, and all he has to do is convince himself. Josh Parcell expects him to enter the draft, and according to him Williams has already made his decision to leave. If he intended to return to Tech why wouldn't he have just said so already?
I believe the Orange Bowl is the last time we'll see RMFW/Lil' Sweetness/Ru rocking the orange and maroon and I'm glad I'll be there in person to enjoy every minute of it.
