Ladies and gentlemen it's here. The game we've had circled on our calendars since the horrific sun bowl, and one that seems like, on paper at least, that we have a real shot at winning. This game will be on national television and I don't think we can stress enough that we NEED this win. There will be tons of big name recruits at the horseshoe, and we have a young and exciting team coming in. Oh, and to top it all off, the entire country will be watching. No pressure added to the team or anything but this is a big deal, and Tech has been reeling a little bit these last two years. This is a great chance for us to beat an OSU team that lost a lot of starters last year to graduation as well as their superstar quarterback, and get back on the radar for college football. It's an opportunity to completely flip the script of the last two years and put ourselves back on the map. It's even an opportunity to (dare I say it?) impress the committee. Show 'em something they'll like.
We're here to look at the weather and what was originally looking like a rough, rainy, windy, thunderous, and swampy day in Columbus has suddenly in the last 12 hours turned into a pretty decent outlook. Originally it was looking like the system was gonna hang around through Saturday night and exit Sunday morning, however its picked up a little speed and should be on its way out by Saturday afternoon. Traveling fans you will drive through some thunderstorms and rough patches of weather but don't fret! It should clear out by 5ish and you should just see maybe some scattered showers during the game. Hopefully this pregame rain will give some Ohio state fans some bad juju, as they, being the favored team have to take any symbol from mother nature as a bad sign! It might even keep them home. How would a muted, cranky, partially empty stadium for a prime-time game look to all the traveling recruits?
The low pressure system and trough associated with the rain that we're going to see these next few days and leading into the weekend will be pushed out by a high pressure system and a ridge that should absolutely crush the storms and kick it out of the region. So bad news UVA you will be playing in the rain in a game that you'll be favored in... more bad omens for the favorites? Or at least soggy baguettes and cheeses.
I'd expect the field to be pretty slick from the rain, from the hours before, however it should be a really pleasant and cool night with some cloud cover too. Because we're still feeling the aftermath of the low pressure system expect some winds coming from the north heading south. Temperatures will be a little chilly with highs only getting up to 67 degrees so bring your jackets. As the evening progresses expect temperatures to drop down to about 54 degrees, with a little bit of a breeze (5-7 MPH gusts) so expect it to be a little cold at night, bring a jacket/hoodie to stay warm and it should be raining during the tailgate.
How it all plays out on the field:
All and all I think this clearing of the weather plays out in our favor, it will be a lot easier to catch the ball, however the field should still be damp enough to make cuts for Ohio state's playmakers very difficult. The ball should remain pretty dry so that our receivers can still make plays against their suspect secondary, and our secondary will still be able to break on the ball. Hopefully we can make enough plays on both sides of the ball and their lineman struggle to dig into the turf with a sure to be muddy field!
