According to Recruit's coach, Jeff Grimes to LSU. This Sucks.

Yesterday it was reported by multiple outlets that LSU offered its vacant offensive line job to Jeff Grimes even though LSU coach Les Miles brushed away speculation yesterday.

It seems as though the initial reports are true and Grimes will be leaving for Baton Rougue. The Richmond Times-Dispatch's Mike Barber spoke with Billy Ray Mitchell's high school coach, Chris Partridge. Mitchell is an offensive lineman that verbally committed to Virginia Tech on July 2, 2013. The following is from Barber's report.

Paramus Catholic High School coach Chris Partridge said Wednesday that someone from Virginia Tech reached out of offensive lineman Billy Ray Mitchell, a Hokies' verbal commitment recruited by Grimes, and told him Grimes was taking the LSU job.

Partridge said he spoke very briefly to Mitchell on his way into a meeting. He did not know if Mitchell had heard from Grimes personally.

A source at Tech said the school hopes to have a resolution in the matter by noon Thursday.

Partridge said he still thinks Mitchell is committed to Virginia Tech but said changes in the coaching staff give a recruit the right to re-open dialogue with other schools.

"You don't pick an institution for position coach nowadays," Partridge said. "There's too much movement. The relationship is part of it, no doubt about it. And it has to be a part of it. But you pick a program for the school."

Grimes is a respected offensive line coach and did a tremendous job teaching fundamentals and toughness to Tech's front-five over the last season. His reputation as an effective recruiter was also upheld in Blacksburg over the last year. Grimes landed verbal commitments from five offensive linemen, all outside of Virginia, for the 2014 cycle. The following tweets from some of those committed recruits were vague and ominous at the time, but make more sense now that it seems Grimes is leaving.

It will be interesting to see if Beamer Co. can keep its offensive line verbals committed. Grimes departure probably doesn't help the Hokies sign Brady Taylor, a Tech verbal, but Columbus native who recently received a scholarship offer from the hometown Buckeyes. Before Tech hired Grimes last year, it was rumored the Ravens Todd Washington, and Chris Malone , both Hokies, were possible candidates for the job. Also, Bryan Stinespring has 10-plus years of experience coaching the offensive line.
