WBB at Clemson Mar 2 at 2 PM

Since I don't want to get caught missing the tip-off tomorrow, I'm going to put this up tonight. Going to miss the game live because the daughter and grand kids are down from PA this week end and we're going to the beach after church tomorrow. You guys will have to bring home a winner without me; but I may be able to listen.

Our 17-11, 8-9 Hokies travel to Clemson tomorrow to take on the 13-15, 6-11 Clemson Tigers. ESPN gives us 66.1% chance of winning. Clemson's ACC victories are against SMU, Ga Tech, Miami, Stanford, Cal, and Wake Forest. We beat all of those teams except Stanford, which we should have beaten.

The starting lineup seems to vary. In their last game a loss to Louisville, the starters were #1 Loyal WcQueen, #12 Mia Moore, #7 Summah Evans, #31 Anya Poole, and # 11 Maddie Cluse. #5 Hannah Kohn, #22 Tessa Miller, and #32 Raven Thompson played significant minutes. In the previous loss to Pittsburgh, McQueen, Kohn, Evans, Cluse, and Miller started; and Moore, Thompson, Poole, and #14 Addie Porter played significant minutes. Moore and Miller are juniors, Kohn is a sophomore; everyone else is a senior or grad student. For comparison, Micheaux and Ekh are seniors, Lani White is a junior; everyone else on the team is a freshman or sophomore.

McQueen leads the scoring at 13.5 ppg, Moore is second at 10.1; Kohn is third at 9.6. Everyone else is between 5 and 8 ppg. Everyone except Poole is a respectable three-point shooter; McQueen and Miller are not as likely to attempt a three as the others. Moore and Miller average 2.8 and 2.3 fouls per game.

Clemson does not turn the ball over much at 14 per game; but they only have 14.7 assists per game. They only score 65.6 ppg and allow 63.9. We play a faster paced game, scoring 76.3 and allowing 69.9 ppg. Depending on which Hokie team shows up we could have between 5 and 25 turnovers. If the 5 team plays, we win easily; if the the 25 team shows up, this game will be close.

On paper we are the better team; but we are younger and more likely to make mistakes, like the retaliation tech fouls that cost us the game against BC. But we learn from our mistakes. Clemson does not have a dominating center like some ACC teams; we should match up well with them. And hopefully Rose is fully healthy and ready to play at full speed.

Winning on the road in the ACC is never easy; but this is a game we could take home.

LET'S GO HOKIES!

I seldom speak to loluva grads, but when I do, I tell them I want large fries.
