It seems that we have a good number of people interested in fishing based on Twitter interactions, so I figured that we should start up a fishing report thread. People could use it to share reports and then perhaps put together some trips with fellow Hokies. Post your reports and fish tales here.
Early April- Fletcher's Boathouse, Potomac River (Washington DC)
When I have not been doing film reviews or slaving away at the day job, since April 5th I have made around a half dozen trips to fish the Potomac River around a half mile north of the parking lot at Fletcher's Boat House. The targeted species are hickory shad and the bigger (and rarer) american shad. Looking and jumping like baby tarpon, these saltwater fish run up into the rivers along the Atlantic coast to spawn each spring. Fishing has been steady, with numbers ranging from 30 to over 100 fish in 3-4 hour windows on moving tides. Almost every fish caught was nailed on a shad rig, using a 1/2 oz chartreuse shad dart with a red head and a trailer with a small gold Nungesser shad spoon.
