Here's the official release from HokieSports.com:
Virginia Tech forward Marshall Wood suffered a fractured third metatarsal of the left foot in Saturday's loss to Georgia Southern. No timetable has been set, but Wood is expected to return later this season. The injury will not require surgery.
"I feel extremely bad for Marshall," head coach James Johnson said. "This young man has been playing well. He was really starting to come into his own and playing with confidence. He has been helping the team in a lot of different ways. This is a set back to Marshall and a set back to our team.
"Right now, we wish him the best for a speedy recovery. I don't know when to expect him back, but he will be with the team in all team activities and be involved in everything we do."
Wood, a freshman from Rustburg, Va., has appeared in all 10 games for the Hokies this season. He is averaging 5.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in 18.3 minutes played per game.
We are down to 7 scholarship players. This is a really tough break (no pun intended) for both Marshall, who has showed a ton of promise and has had good minutes, and the team, which was already thin.
