A Hokie State of Mind

So sometimes when I have writers block I like to drink a couple of beers and see where it takes me. What happened next tonight is I arrived at the metaphorical red light. Well that never happens to Hank Moody. So I ran it. I drank a couple more beers, mixed in some bourbon, some conversation with Mrs. TKP, good tunes and a little chit chat with y'all on the Twitter. Now normally by that time I'm speeding. I'm able to find a voice, some perspective or an interesting point of view. Tonight I've got nothing interesting to say. Only this, I want Hokie football now.

We're less than 33 days away from kickoff and I'm not sure I can make it. The last couple weeks I've gotten up, checked my calendar and calculated the number of days until that first snap. And it's funny because one half of my brain says to the other, "Joe you idiot, it's just one minus yesterday's count. Close Google calendar." Maybe that other half thinks the time between then and now isn't linear and one day we'll jump ahead a couple of weeks... Yeah, fat chance of that happening.

But I'm just amped, pumped and ready to go. I walk down the hallways of my apartment building whistling Tech Triumph as loud as possible. Last Tuesday I honked my horn at the oblivious driver in front of me to the melody of the Stick it In chant. Anytime I see someone wearing a UVa shirt I ball up my fists, rub my eyes and pine, "BOO HOO, BOO HOO!" And this weekend I plan on taking my bottle of Makers into the closet for five minutes of spin the bottle.

Hey look! We did arrive at a destination after all... I can't promise much, but I will say this, I'm a fanatic. I want all of you who are going to strap in for the ride this season to know that. This is going to be a special season, and full disclosure, we're going to have one helluva time. Let's go!
