Virginia Tech's recruiting is off to a hot start in the new year.
Nathan Proctor committed to the Hokies over Penn State and Pitt at Sunday's Under Armour All-America Game. ESPN reported Friday Proctor's decision would be final, although he plans to take official visits to the Nittany Lions and Panthers. Proctor already made an official visit to Blacksburg the weekend of December 9th.

"The whole lunchpail defense that Bud Foster has, and the unique offense that Coach Fuente's put together," Proctor said about his decision following his commitment to Tech.
The 6-3, 220 pound Lackey HS (Indian Head, MD) product is rated a 4-star recruit (outside linebacker) by the 247Sports Composite. ESPN rates him as No. 100 overall 2017 prospect (OLB), and the Four-Letter's "underclassmen eval" follows.
STRENGTHS: Tall, long kid with excellent speed. Reads quickly, has good instincts and rarely gets caught out of position. Wins on the edge with speed and balance and has the burst to close on the QB. Plays with relentless motor and looks to punish ball carriers. ... AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT: Will need to add bulk and functional strength. Can be run at and needs to become more stout at the point of attack. Lacks consistent hand placement and technique. ... BOTTOM LINE: Proctor is a long, explosive edge prospect who is a bit of a 'tweener at this stage. If he adds some bulk, he will most likely end up as a defensive end at the next level. Overall, he has a lot of potential no matter what position he ultimately plays.
Proctor seemingly projects to either a backer or defensive end in Bud Fosters' scheme. He shared brief thoughts on his defensive role with Rivals.com.
"I fit in perfectly," said Proctor. "It's just like what I've been doing in high school, rushing the quarterback, dropping into coverage, and just roaming."
