Not a whole lot of time for me this week, as I'm in the San Francisco Bay area for work, so I figured I'd throw out a few quick numbers nuggets to the TKP readers. First, a look at Virginia Tech's active winning streaks, and then a look BCS Bowl projections as if the season ended today.
After the Hokies 30-14 win over Boston College extended our winning streak against the Eagles to 4, and with our next game at Duke, against whom Tech has 10 straight wins, I was curious what our active winning streaks are. I did a little research on Hokiesports.com and came up with the following list (below the break). They are the teams that the Hokies have at least a 2-game winning streak versus, and their last win has come during the Bowl Era.

Rutgers | 11 |
William & Mary | 10 |
Duke | 10 |
Virginia | 7 |

How about Virginia Tech's currently active winning streaks (4 consecutive, minimum) regardess of when the last win came?

Bonus trivia question: What is the team which the Hokies currently enjoy a 24 game winning streak against? Comment here or hit me up on Twitter if you think you know the answer.
EDIT: The answer is Hampden-Sydney. Virginia Tech has won 24 straight against the Tigers, with our last win coming in 1937. @kburkevt was the first to get it. Hampden-Sydney College is located in Hampden-Syndey, Virginia (just south of Farmville), has 1100 undergrads, and presently plays Division-III ball in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
And finally, here's my updated BCS Bowl Selections, as if the season ended today. I'll use the same guidelines I used in my BCS Primer.
BCS Champ Game | Oklahoma St. | Alabama/LSU |
---|---|---|
Rose Bowl | Michigan St | Stanford |
Fiesta Bowl | Oklahoma | Oregon |
Sugar Bowl | LSU/Alabama | Boise State |
Orange Bowl | Clemson | West Virginia |
Automatic Qualifiers: Alabama, Oklahoma St,, Clemson, Stanford, Michigan St, West Virginia, Boise St, LSU
At-large pool: Oregon, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Nebraska
Due to Oklahoma's loss, Oklahoma State slides into the BCS Championship Game, and Michigan State replaces Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl. As always, this assumes the season ended today, and me making a few assumptions about the team selections. There's a whole helluvalot of football left to play. (Sidenote: if Oklahoma State slips up, there is a chance we could see a 'Bama/LSU rematch in the BCS Championship Game.) [Sidenote #2 & EDIT: Just updated these projections - I had a glaring mistake in the order in which the bowls make their selections. Thanks nate23vt!]
