After reading and listening to my fellow VPI supporters I felt compelled to state my mind:
Forgive me if I am off base...
This football team is 3-1. Alabama came calling in the opener, with a team that had raised the last two BCS National Championships, a juggernaut. WE HELD OUR OWN. Our defense made Alabama look mortal, look at the stats for Alabama's next game (Texas A&M). The rest of the team was not quite ready for the Tide that was coming. Fast forward to the next week and we looked like we should have against an inferior opponent, Western Carolina.
The next two weeks featured games against "sneaky" good teams. A trip to any stadium in college football is dangerous. A trip to a team's home (ECU) looking to gain respect against the big boys is even more dangerous. WE WON THE GAME. It may have not been pretty, but we moved on. The following week against Marshall, our defense decided to sleep for the first 21 minutes of the game. Well, they did not give up a point after that, even when Marshall started with the ball on the 25 yard line for three drives in overtime. Logan, or the rest of the offense, may not have played well, but they did enough to win the game.
At this point let me share this quote that personally means a lot to me and will always dictate how I lead my life: "We are better than we think and not quite what we want to be. We are alive to the imaginations and to the possibilities. We will continue to invent the future through our blood and tears through and all of our sadness. We are the Hokies. We will prevail. We will prevail. We will prevail. We are Virginia Tech."
Now let me say that I know the original context of this speech was in much more serious circumstances. But, these words, and this speech as a whole is a microcosm of the Virginia Tech community as a whole. WE WILL FIGHT THROUGH OUR TRIBULATIONS. AND WE WILL COME OUT STRONGER.
I truly believe that this football team is beginning the movement to take our program to greater heights. Through hard work and the will to never quit. These boys FOUGHT to stun 'Bama in a way, to silence the roar at ECU, and to stop the HERD that tried to overtake Lane Stadium. It may not be the most talented team to take the field for our beloved Hokies, but I believe this team is the most determined team to take the field. The most determined to restore the reputation of a proud program and to get us on course to reach greater heights in the future.
I am sorry if this seems completely off base, but I really do believe that this team is beginning the movement to take this program to the next level.
Let's kill some Yellow Jackets on Thursday boys!
