For the fourth time this cycle, Virginia Tech tapped fertile Florida for a football commitment. Defensive lineman Brandon Dorlus committed to the Hokies Thursday evening.

"It's a family atmosphere," said Dorlus at his announcement ceremony. "When I went there with my family, it really felt like it was a good school for me. They would take care of me, really good care of me."
Dorlus made a visit to Tech on Sunday and had a meeting of the minds with Justin Fuente, Bud Foster, and Charley Wiles. Dorlus recounted the conversion.
"I'll be the perfect fit for their defense in the way they treat their d-lineman," said Dorlus. "I felt like that'd be the best place for me, for me to be a better player, and be a better man after 3-4 years."
Dorlus saw his recruitment ramp up over spring. Virginia Tech, Virginia, Central Florida, Rutgers, Cincinnati, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa State, and Ole Miss all extended him a scholarship offer in May. The Sun Sentinel provided more details.
Dorlus surprised himself with his rise as a football prospect — he doubles as a basketball player — after a phenomenal spring where college coaches walked away impressed whenever they saw him at practice.
"It's been crazy because if you asked me last year 'Would I be doing this tomorrow?' I would say no," Dorlus said. "They all said they like my athleticism, how I can move on the line.
The 247Sports Composite rates Dorlus as a 3-star (0.8548) SDE. However, similar to fellow Sunshine State DL commits Mario Kendricks and Norell Pollard, the 6-3, 270 pound Deerfield Beach HS product seems destined to be an interior d-lineman for the Hokies.
