Here are two blog posts that you should read.
Another disturbing concern with audience in my section was some spent just as much time during the game high-fiving over the Phillies and Yankees battling in the World Series than watching the game on the field. It was border-line annoying having them look across me at the scoreboard, waiting for the updates, while a key play was taking place on the opposite end of the field. I had the feeling that the tailgate before was more important to them than beating the Tar Heels. I had to remind myself that I was not at FedEx Field watching the Washington Redskins where it appears to be more of a status issue being at the game than rooting for the team you have ties to.
I first noticed the changing culture in Lane Stadium when I went to the VT-Miami game in 2005. A girl in the North End Zone to the left of my friends told me she would get the police if I didn't move out her "seat" in the bleachers. I explained to her that when I was an undergrad we all just crammed in and had a good time. The didn't sit well, and I eventually moved since I was intoxicated and didn't want to deal with the fuzz. The people to the right let me in without a problem. Needless to say, I didn't offer her any bourbon.
Football Girl's Top 5 VT Comebacks
My favorite from her list is Georgia Tech in 2004.
Even though I was at the Nebraska game, and stayed to the end (unlike the girl who from above who probably left after the second half) the GT win just made 2004 that much more special.
