BeamerBall.com announced Duan Perez-Means is switching positions from defensive end to tight end. Not including the Sugar Bowl he played just 50 snaps at end and had 8 total tackles (6 assisted, 2 solo). I thought he played well enough when he got on the field, but there's a logjam at end. Both 2011 starters, James Gayle and J.R. Collins, return this season. Zack McCray, Tyrel Wilson and possibly Corey Marshall will compete for a spot on the two-deep. The move was at Duan's request, unlike the coaches asking Chris Drager to switch last season. He played tight end in high school, and got some work on the scout team last season. Based on how much they played in 2011, Eric Martin and George George look to be the top two tight ends heading into spring. Randall Dunn, Ryan Malleck and now Perez-Means will push them for playing time.

So yeah, how much are we going to miss Coale?
In 2008 the SEC and ACC proposed and supported, respectively, a Plus-One playoff plan. At the time, the other four BCS conference and Notre Dame wanted to keep the current BCS format. Now the Big Ten is supporting a Plus-One system, and proposing a format, which means some sort of playoff (most likely a Plus-One) is probably going to happen. The Pac-12 usually falls in line with the Big Ten, and at that point 4 of the 7 bodies would be in favor of the idea.
Jim Weaver backs the new ACC divisions and scheduling format. Of course he does, Tech didn't end up in some neo Big East "ACC North". Important scheduling notes. Weaver said one of the 2014 non-conference games (Ohio State, East Carolina, William and Mary or Western Michigan) needs to be pushed back. He doesn't expect the new Big Ten–Pac-12 partnership to affect the home-and-homes scheduled with Ohio State (2014 and '15) and Wisconsin (2016 and '17). Yay!
The Frankinator will be on Dan Rather Reports tonight (8:00 or 11:00 PM HDNET) to discuss Daniel Rodriguez. In case you forgot, Rodriguez is the 24-year-old Army veteran trying to walk-on to play college football. Hopefully he gets an opportunity somewhere, and hopefully that somewhere is at Tech.
