Louisville will join the ACC. Let's discuss.

It's official.

-----

They need 75% of the vote.

This is from David Glenn, who broke the news of a vote late last night.

"Given the way the conversations have gone to this point, either Louisville will be approved for an invitation (Wednesday) or nobody will be approved for an invitation," one ACC source said. "Any other result would be a major surprise."

ACC presidents have debated how much weight to put on factors such as recent athletic success, traditional athletic success, TV market size, academic reputation and geography, sources said.

As a long-time basketball power with a rising football program and a dynamic athletic director (Tom Jurich), Louisville is seen as by far the best candidate athletically. However, in terms of academics (see below) and TV market size (see bottom), the Cardinals would fit at the bottom of the existing ACC spectrum.

So the ACC bucks its own trend and favors athletics over academics, and in this new world of conference networks, TV sets.

Here's what McMurphy (and Katz, I guess) had to say.

The Atlantic Coast Conference presidents and chancellors will hold a Wednesday morning teleconference in which they are expected to vote to add Louisville to the ACC, an industry source told ESPN.

North Carolina athletic director Bubba Cunningham said Tuesday that the league's presidents would consider Louisville, UConn and Cincinnati for membership. The ACC is seeking a team to replace Maryland, which will leave for the Big Ten in 2014.

Sources said there is a sense among league presidents that the ACC will vote to add only one member because the remaining two Big East schools have no other options and the ACC could get them later on if the ACC lost any other schools.

So, if the vote goes as expected and Louisville is added, how do you feel about that? What division should they play in? Should the divisions be realigned? Who should their divisional rival be? Does this stabilize the ACC? Would you prefer another conference over the ACC?
