Frank Beamer held a teleconference this afternoon with the beat writers and dropped tidbits about spring practice.
Frank Beamer: "It's a real eager time around here." Said with new coaches comes new ideas and that he has left them alone to set up offense.— Mark Giannotto (@HokiesJournal) March 25, 2013
I've written it before, but even though Stinespring got the blame for the offense failing, it was never made clear that he had autonomy. Beamer letting the offensive coaches do what they're good at (or we hope they're good it), will be a good thing.
Beamer said Mark Shuman and Augie Conte will start out at LT and Laurence Gibson and Adam Tarashcke at RT. Nick Acree inside at guard.— Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) March 25, 2013
I wonder if Acree lost some range / mobility after tearing his ACL. The coaches were bullish on him at tackle last August. He always tests as one of the strongest players in the offseason, and at 6-5, ~320 he could be a beast inside at guard. Perhaps the starting o-line at the start of spring will be from left to right: Shuman, Farris, Miller, Benedict, and Gibson? Although, I'm not counting anyone out.
Beamer on Edmunds and RBs: "I think Trey's kind of right in the middle of it. We need to figure out who's who, and what's what." #Hokies— Mike Barber (@RTD_MikeBarber) March 25, 2013
Yay!
Tech coach Frank Beamer said he "definitely" wants to have "pecking order" established for RBs coming out of spring practice. #Hokies— Mike Barber (@RTD_MikeBarber) March 25, 2013
Double-Yay! A pecking order is probably the right phrase. Tailback tandems are becoming the norm in the NFL and college, so I expect a one-two punch this fall.
Beamer: "I want this to be the toughest football team we've ever had here at Virginia Tech." #Hokies— Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) March 25, 2013
That's the most important thing the Frankinator said.
