WBB hosts Wake Forest Jan 12 at 2 PM

The 11-4, 2-2 Hokies host the 7-8, 0-4 Demon Deacons in Cassell today at 2 PM. The game will be broadcast on the ACCNextra streaming channel. WF is on a 3 game losing streak and has lost 5 of their last 6. The Ladies have won their last two including the 2OT thriller over #13 Ga Tech in their last outing.

Against their one common opponent WF beat Campbell 63-46; the Hokies beat Campbell 81-46.

Wake starts a grad student, redshirt senior, senior, redshirt junior and a sophomore; obviously a very experienced team. The Hokies start 2 seniors, a junior and 2 sophomores. The Hokies bench is all freshmen; the Deacons bench includes 2 seniors, a freshman and a sophomore, who play significant minutes and a freshman, sophomore and grad student who don't play much.

Wake's leading scorer, #21 5'9" guard Elise Williams, has not been starting recently, but comes off the bench to play nearly 30 min/game. #5 6'3" forward Malaya Cowles makes nearly 59% of her shots. #25 6'2" forward Demaera Hinds makes nearly 55% of her shots. Overall the Deacs shoot 43% overall and 32% from three while scoring only 62 points per game. They make about 6 three point shots per game. Only 2 players score in double digits; but 5 score between 8.5 and 10.6 points per game; so a pretty balanced scoring attack.

Wake has been outrebounded by their opponents by 1 rpg; they average 14.1 assists and 16.5 turnovers per game. #25 Hinds averages 3.1 fouls per game; so she probably spends a lot of time on the bench, and may explain why she only plays 21 min/game.

The ESPN matchup predictor gives the Hokies a 94.1% chance to win this game. If they are correct, Maya Hazelton and Ramiya White may see some minutes today. Williams has scored 1192 points in her career, which puts at at #22 on the all time scoring list at Wake; she needs 9 points today to move into the top 20. Wake prides themselves on defense and the Hokies are one of the top scoring teams in the conference. How will the unstoppable force of the Hokies offense do against the immovable object of the WF defense. Based on the two teams records and ESPN predictor, pretty well.

LET'S GO HOKIES!

I seldom speak to loluva grads, but when I do, I tell them I want large fries.
