WEEKLY WEATHER REPORT!!! SENIOR DAY!!!!

Wow, let me start this segment off by saying I was DEAD wrong last week...I talked to my friend about it (who has much more forecasting experience than I) and he said man, when it comes to offshore flows you might as well take the euro and pressure system readings and throw em out the window... well...lesson learned I was kinda cocky and arrogant with the whole ITS NOT GONNA RAIN thing, little did I know (never forecasted for Florida before) that there were two converging winds that created some significant....who am I kidding it was a torrential downpour, it was pretty awesome to watch but at the same time kind of a foot in mouth moment... so to all of you at Miami who chose to look at my report...my bad

So for today's segment in the educational portion, I'm going to touch on two things...one Offshore flow and two... I cant believe this hasn't been mentioned yet but super storm Haiyan...woah....the MET program here was salivating looking at it, and super concerned for the Philippines...seriously how they didn't evacuate prior to the weekend simply dumbfounds me, this event was such a tragedy. Well since I'm already on the Haiyan topic I might as well continue, Haiyan incase you haven't heard was quite possibly the strongest storm the modern world has ever recorded. With sustained winds of 195 MPH (equivalent to an EF 4 tornado) recorded at roughly 1120 miles wide at one point. Think about that for a second (yes the winds aren't that strong the entire time or all over and yes winds are typically strongest at the right frontal quadrant) it's still like a consistent tornado with a massive storm surge hitting an island that's barely above sea levels in a lot of areas. When models and forecasters first started recognizing this about a week prior everyone knew something big was coming, but nothing could compare to what would happen. A low pressure system with a ridiculous reading of 895 (potentially all the way down into the 850s depending on who you ask) which...is close to record breaking (if its in the 850s it is record breaking)...this storm was so strong with such a strong narrow eye and incredibly strong winds.

check out the size of this thing if you dont appreciate it yet

Still dont?

typically typhoons and cyclones hurricanes...whatever you wanna call them, form when a low pressure system begins to form and is sent westward by trade winds near the center of the equator. Once entering warmer water regions the storm begins to pick up tons of moisture as high pressure systems nearby begin to push the winds coutnerclockwise and into the already forming storm. By pushing these winds inward it further strengthens the storm and as the storm picks up more and more moisture it becomes stronger and stronger, eventually it becomes so strong that a central "eye" forms which is a calm area located at the center of the storm with a MASSIVE low pressure cell. High pressure air pushes back down through the eye creating calm regions. Generally, with typhoons the storms typically reorganize the eye, which weakens them somewhat however what we saw with Haiyan was such a perfect and tightly wrapped eye that it didn't have to reorganize. Because it didn't have to reorganize it actually strengthened heading into the Philippines and became incredibly powerful. Also highly unusual for Haiyan was an increased lightning activity around the Eye Wall which typically is not associated with typhoons, many meteorologists are still scratching their head as to why Haiyan had lightning around the eye wall but many believe it represents the storm strengthening. Also unusually the storm produced MORE rainfall as it hit the Philippines which many meteorologists much smarter than I associate with lift created by the islands forcing tons of rainfall down in a short period of time, however again it points towards the storm strengthening as it approaches landfall. The most dangerous part of the storm (storm surge) reached incredible heights of 15-20 feet!!! thats absurd!!!

Heres a picture of Haiyan if it had hit the US

anywho I'm done with my rant about Haiyan, it was a big storm...like really big storm, and if you havent heard about it yet (I cant imagine how you haven't) look into it they're thinking 10000+ people died in the storm.

Now to the stuff that relates more to us

First I'm going to discuss those pesky converging winds that totally screwed up my forecast last weekend. Because I did not account to the fact that Florida is...well a peninsula (I know I got lazy again...MY BAD) we get these nifty things called offshore breezes and onshore breezes. Those of you who know a thing or two about...well all of you know that things heat up at different rates (I believe that was chemistry right?). Anyway because of that the Carribean/Atlantic Ocean heat up at a much slower rate than the land. Because of this the land heats the air above it much faster than the Water and the cooler water air flows under the warm air as winds begin blowing it this way creating a sort of make-shift cold front/low pressure system and some lift.

Because Mr. Meteorlogist guy here didnt account for that and the fact that it rains all the damn time in Florida we got some pretty significant rainfall in Florida. Soooooo my bad one last time! but either way, I think it played into our advantage so mother nature put this cocky dude in his place and gave VT a MONSTER win over DA U

So mother nature was kinda looking out for us, even though you'd think the hurricanes would be good in the rain, the slick ball gave our players...specifically out punter...a chance at some huge plays and my oh my did they capitalize

couple that with Miami's Cryptonite (Logan Thomas) and you have a recipe for Al golden nightmares for the next few weeks. But we're done with Da U, we go from my 3rd favorite coach in the ACC to my 3rd to least favorite....Mr Edsall... although I guess 2nd favorite because TimeCop is a cop first coach second!

this guy has ruined a program that I used to cheer for when they weren't playing tech, UMD went from the fridge to this guy?! the Guy who scared Danny O'Brien and half the team off the campus?! what was their AD thinking?! I cant fault his x's and o's because i dont think hes a horrendous coach but...how can anyone want to go play for this guy especially after the way he treated Uconn on the way out?! But I digress, I'm here to discuss weather... but man I hate that guy.

This weekend for our lovely senior day we will be looking at some beautiful weather blowing in (particularly compared to the beginning of the week). As the fall trend continues, the high pressure systems are flowing in at a weekly basis, and things are flowing in as normal. (I like Cheese) High's are gonna be in the mid 50's and lows can drop down to the high 30s, which...if you aren't a student you'd know that this is a huge change in the freaking 15 degree lows my soccer team played in last night!

as the high pressure system blows overtop of us around friday, it should start getting progressively warmer and warmer as we go into the weekend. The next low pressure front wont come in until early next week so expect some rainfall early on the week but with the low pressure system comes some warmer weather so dont expect snow just tons of rainfall. Expect very little wind, like maybe 5 MPH gusts so all and all it should play out to be a beautiful afternoon!!! So go out there and grab some Bourbon because its gonna be a BEAUTIFUL day in Blacksburg

How it all plays out on the field!

Well, this is the last game of the season and quite frankly it will be a glorious one, I'm sad that fuller Mk III and exum cant play, but all is well because we have Fuller MK IV and Facyson. The weather shouldn't have any effect on either team and I fully expect Loeffler to keep his foot on the gas. Our offensive line has proven it can win in the trenches, and if I'm Loeffler I'm going to trust it to keep doing so against a much less athletic front 7 in UMDs. if we can get the play action working Logan has proven time and time again that hes deadly. That being said we still need to come out and play today, our team is more talented in my belief and without a great equalizer of weather playing a role its going to take a hell of an effort by Maryland or our offense laying a complete egg in the game in order for us to blow it, which dont get me wrong it could happen, I want them to prove that the Miami game wasn't just a fluke and they can play that well! I expect to leave this game something like this

As for our special teams...I swear its like Jykell and Hyde stuff back there...on one side we have AJ Hughes... the all everything peoples champ at punter and he basically pisses excellence, he makes every punt returner wanna take a knee on the 1 just out of fear that they may have to face this animal down the field. I wanna start the #HughesforHeisman chant at some point this year, the unsung hero of the team!!!!

now that I'm done gushing about Hughes, Ive got...well nobody now thanks to the Journell...seriously, not only was he not incredible, despite being incredibly talented he was also a knucklehead. Like dude...yes you're the first scholarship kicker in school history, but you're still not the QB, teams will have no problem cutting you in the NFL because there is a plethora of talented kickers out there...so please get your life together and at least learn something from this experience, you've been given plenty of opportunities but im really hoping that this one will finally stick.

Final Predictions

VT - 27 (god I hope I dont jinx this)
UMD - 10
High 55
Low 40
Kickoff Temperature - 50
Winds - 5 MPH gusts tops
Clear - Partly Cloudy Skies
No Precip (I PROMISE THIS TIME)
