The Big Game Before The Big Game

Virginia Tech heads to the house of horrors in Syracuse, New York, needing a win to set up their biggest game in over a decade. They'll surely get it done though, what could go wrong!

College football's weird, man.

If I had come to you in mid-August and offered the following:

"You can either play out the season, or you could super-sim straight to Clemson and be 6-3, with a realistic path to the ACC Championship game and the College Football Playoff. Oh, and they were two plays away from being 8-1 and a playoff bubble team."

How many of you would have taken this very, very specific hypothetical? My best guess is about half. And many of the rest of you are liars.

Hell, I would've taken it after 30 seconds of thought. I'd have assumed losses to Rutgers, Miami and something dumb to Georgia Tech. Because any of us with realistic views of this team saw an eight-win season, with landmines sprinkled between a number of soft ACC opponents. We knew Miami was legit good. We also knew, deep down, that the Scarlet Knights would pose significant problems (whether they should have given Tech such difficulties is another conversation outside of this discussion).
